The Department of Food and Nutrition Services is seeking a full time Dietary Aide to join our team.  The Chaparral House kitchen provides delicious and nutritious meals every day for our residents.  Chaparral House offers an attractive compensation package that includes liberal time off and 100% employer-paid healthcare and dental insurance to full-time employees.

SHIFT TIMES:        6:30 AM TO 3:00 PM or 12:00 NOON TO 8:30 PM

QUALIFICATIONS 

Ability to effectively communicate with superiors and co-workers as well as understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.  Must be able to provide evidence of valid CA Food Handlers Certificate within 3 months of hire.  High degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene.  Must be able to perform all essential duties at full capacity – there are no accommodations for light duty.  Ability to work in close cooperation with others, give and accept directions in a constructive manner. Candidates must be fully vaccinated for Covid and have already had a first booster and either have already had a second booster or soon be second-booster eligible.

ESSENTIAL TO THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS JOB:

Standing and/or walking 70% or more, sitting 10-20%, frequent to very frequent bending, reaching, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs., pushing or pulling loads up to 75 lbs., and using/climbing step-stool or short ladder

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides assistance as required in all dietary functions as scheduled as well as directed and instructed by Cooks and Supervisor.

  • Tallies nourishments and assists cooks in determining amount and type of food and supplies required for daily snacks.
  • Obtains food and supplies as directed.
  • Assists in preparation, covering and labeling food as directed.
  • Pours, covers and labels beverages.
  • Exercises proper care, use, cleaning and sanitation of food service supplies and kitchen equipment.
  • Prepares in-room service trays and checks/compares trays with diet cards prior to serving.
  • Serves resident meals in dining room according to menus and resident preferences, and checks/compares plates with diet card prior to serving. Apply proper and diet appropriate garnish to plate for presentation prior to serving.
  • Strips trays from in-room service and buses dining room tables for dishwashing.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all dining room tables after meals and before applying new table covers.
  • Performs dishwashing procedures to include resident water pitchers, hydration station dispensers and midnight snacks box daily.
  • Sets up trays and food service carts accurately and timely for next meal.
  • Performs cleaning duties as scheduled or directed in the kitchen, serving areas, and dining rooms. Cleans refrigeration units and storerooms as scheduled.  Cleans and sanitizes work area and equipment to include food service carts.
  • Checks incoming food and supplies upon delivery and assists with stocking storeroom using FIFO method and labeling.
  • Prepares and delivers juice, water, applesauce and chocolate pudding to Nurses Station for AM and PM Med Passes.
  • Prepares and delivers snacks and nourishments as ordered by the Physician, Nursing and Supervisor.
  • Plates up desserts for dinner meal as prepared by AM Cook. Ask for instructions if needed.
  • Provides adequate, prompt and accurate assistance as directed in specific or general food service functions.
  • Complies with established abuse prevention, policies and procedures, infection control, facility fire safety, and sanitary standards of the Department and Chaparral House.
  • Attends scheduled in-service trainings, Chaparral House all-staff meetings and Department meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as requested/directed by Supervisor.

Pay Range: Dietary aides start at $20.51 per hour and earn up to $22.39 per hour. Pay rate is calculated based on years of service at Chaparral House.
