2023 Giving Tuesday Project

November 28, 2023

Giving Tuesday, the worldwide day designated to focus on the work of nonprofits and support their mission financially, is coming up on November 28th.

This year Chaparral House is fundraising to purchase a supply of Dignity Clothing Protectors and Fidget Blankets to improve the lives our residents.

Older man sitting eating food with a white shirt covered by a light blue button up Dignity Bib with a yellow bow tie with red polka dots. He is sitting next to an older woman smiling with a cream shirt and a blue and green floral Dignity Bib that resembles a scarf around her neck.

Originally designed by a nurse, Dignity Clothing Protectors, protect clothing from mealtime mishaps while providing dignity to the wearer in a fashionable way that resembles clothing. Seen to the right,

they are designed for both men and women and are large enough to cover their entire front and lap without feeling bulky.

An older man sitting in an armchair wearing a tan sweater with a fidget blanket on his lap. The blanket has a light grey background with 10 different activities on it, including buttons, zippers, a photo slot, and strings.

Fidget Blankets (also called activity sensory blankets) provide a variety of fun activities and are designed to trigger memories, stimulate senses and the brain, while keeping “restless” hands busy. Seniors suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia can become anxious or nervous when they don’t have something to do with their hands. This is a fun and engaging way to decrease agitation and anxiety levels by soothing anxious hands with familiar objects and sensory calming fabrics.

Our goal is to raise funds to be able to  purchase:

60 of Dignity Bibs ($25 each)

25 Fidget Blankets ($40 each)

Making our total fundraising goal to be $2500.

We would love to have you support us in these efforts to improve the lives of our seniors!
